We're in a full-blown Recession. The days of easy money and order-taking are gone (maybe for good). Today you must be razor sharp, eager, and willing to take the risks needed to succeed in these times of uncertainty.

Risk. Uncertainty. They are not the same.
Risk is a concept that denotes the precise probability of specific eventualities. (Now THERE'S a mouthful.) Simply, risk relates to gain and loss. We understand the concept of risk when we think, normally, greater potential gain requires greater risk. But in today's economy, how big of a risk are we willing to take?
Uncertainty, as defined by Douglas Hubbard, in his book How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of Intangibles in Business, is a state of having limited knowledge where it is impossible to exactly describe existing state or future outcome. In other words, we don't know what we don't know. Uncertainty magnifies our perception of risk.
What we DO know is that what worked yesterday is not working today. Even before the recession, we were already operating under new rules simply by the massive power shift of information from the supplier's hands into the customer's. Many businesses, unable adjust to that new situation, must have felt like they were thrown under the bus when the economy began to tumble.
To add insult to injury, we watch the news and read the papers (what's left of THEM) reporting on the billions of our hard earned, taxpayer dollars being doled out to the very people and companies who caused the massive problems in the first place.
THEY get a Stimulus Package,
but what about US?
I'm not talking about giving us free money! I'm talking about giving us HELP... HELP alleviating some of the risk we're all shouldering these days...and HELP lightening the uncertainty facing all our businesses.
OK, I'm getting on a rant here, but I have to say I think it's a crime nobody has stepped up to give regular, good old, honest, hard working businesses their own Stimulus Package.
